"Look Again"

"Look Again"

“Look Again”

If I can be honest there are times in my life when I lose sight of who God has called me to be because of everything going on in my life and the world. During these times I have to take a minute to remember whose I am. Doing this helps me get back on track to seeing myself and my situation the way God intended me to see them.

The crazy thing is during this time there’s a song that comes to mind.

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you want to make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself, and then make a change

I feel like this song preaches because there’s a Biblical undertone to the words our brother MJ is singing.

Have you ever felt like you needed to look in the mirror and get your life, right?.....
Yeah, I know, never, right? LOL
But let’s be honest with the fact that we all have to look in the mirror and be real with ourselves from time to time. Especially because of our desire to see change in our lives and the lives of those around us.

James 1:22-25 states:

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror  and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

The book of James is what I like to call a blue print for how we should live, act, and be as Christians. He states facts with no apology all while giving us the recipe for how to walk our Christian walk in a manner that’s pleasing to God. The book of James covers Spiritual lessons that can either derail us or push us into purpose. James calls us out for forgetting whose we are and helps us to focus on what’s more important like popularity vs. righteousness.

The overarching theme I can pull from this book is actions speaks louder than words, but you first have to see yourself in the word of God prior to being able to apply it to your life.

Sis, could you imagine what would happen if we all seen ourselves in the word of God and actually applied it to our lives. We would be like the man in the book of Matthew (Mathew 7:24-25) who heard the word of God and applied it. He was like a wise man that built his home on a rock. When the rain and the storms came, his house remained.

Sis, just in case you have lost sight of who you are because you forgot whose you are let me give you some scripture that will help you look again and believe it this time.

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”
John 1:12

““Before I formed you in the womb I knew you [and approved of you as My chosen instrument], And before you were born I consecrated you [to Myself as My own]; I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.””
Jeremiah 1:5

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, a [special] people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
1 Peter 2:9

“And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.”
Romans 8:28

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
Isaiah 55:11

Perhaps you were born for such a time as this.
Esther 4:14

Now sis, I don’t know your particular circumstance, things could be all good for you. To another sister you may be in transition, and to another you may feel totally lost. What I do know for sure is that God has called you and he loves you. If you ever feel like you don’t know who you are look again at what the word of God says about you and then receive it.  We are 60 days from a New Year and I want you to finish this year stronger, bolder, and equipped to walk out what God is calling you to do for such a time as this.

Let’s Pray!

Father God we come before you first asking for forgiveness of any sins that we have allowed to hinder us from seeing ourselves the way you see us. We ask that you would allow us to gain understanding of your word and how to apply it to our lives, for you to be gloried and our lives to be edified. Lord God, we say yes to your will not understanding everything, but wanting to be totally yielded to you. We thank you that love, hope, and peace are our portion. We stand as Esther stood knowing we have been called for such a time as this. Thanking  you Lord, that the devil has already been defeated and our past can’t hold us back. We will look into the mirror and forget what we saw because we now see ourselves in your word. It is in Jesus name we pray these things by faith, Amen.

She is clothed in strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.
