"Nothing to Prove"
"Nothing to Prove"
(the full story can be found in 1 Samuel 17:1-51)
Please know that there will come a time in your life when you get honest with yourself about just how great you really are. You will come to the realization that your experiences whether they are good or bad have prepared you for what’s ahead. Now let me just say that the greatness you possess is not from you alone, it does come from the greatest to ever do it, God himself. These things came to my mind while I was studying the story of David and Goliath. I came to realize that David had a strong mindset, he reverenced God, and he was not afraid to use his skills to defeat a Giant. The matchup between the two simply allowed for those skills to be put on display.
Just some background on the two: David was known as a finnnne shepherd boy from a family of farmers and Shepard’s. His family was from the tribe of Judah and known for producing kings. On the other hand, Goliath was a giant who had been trained as a soldier since the age of seven. He came from the Philistine camp who was known for their advanced weaponry and formidable military. During this story Israel is at war with the Philistine army. Goliath a giant from Gath asked them a question “Why did you come to fight me; don’t you know that I’m a Philistine? “ Later David is sent to the battle field to take his brothers some food. He sees that everyone is in an uproar over Goliath. He then asked everyone “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
Now, Let’s skip to the good part. David asked King Saul for permission to fight Goliath and is eventually given the approval. The crazy thing is that King Saul tried to give David his amour, but it wasn’t the right size for him. All David needed was what he had, that was a sling shot and five smooth stones. Once David entered the battlefield and Goliath charged towards him; David placed a stone in his sling shot using it to hit Goliath in the forehead. Goliath fell to the ground, then David took Goliath’s own sword from him and cut off his head.
I came to encourage you because I know the situation you are facing may seem insurmountable, but you literally have everything you need in your possession to win the battle. The hard part is winning the battle in your mind ,first. How can you do that you say? By simply; spending time reading the word of God, removing yourself from situations that don’t serve your growth, by surrounding yourself with GodFriend’s, and finally by going to therapy if you need it, sis. Once you take hold off that, it’s up from there. Please don’t allow anyone to put their armor on you i.e their opinion, lack of discernment, greater than though attitude, or inability to see you; stop you for you from living the life God has called you to.
If I can be honest when I first published the “She’s A Praya” prayer journal in April 2020. I got some criticism that caused me to not fully show up for you and my brand. I overheard people say things like “Oh she prays?” or “She’s just doing it for the money.” When in all reality I was built for this, God called me to do this. I do more ministry behind the scenes than will ever be posted on social media. My public confession of God mirrors how I live on the daily. A lot of the people who had something to say about me in a crowd called me for prayer when no one was around. I know you are reading this and saying to yourself “Man Lisa is full of pride.” When in reality I’ve simply made a decision to get my mind right and be courageous like David. Do I have everything figured out? Absolutely not! I do know one thing for certain and two things for sure and that I’d rather make sure I’m obeying God. Then living down to the standards of men who appear to be greater, but never placed this call on my life. So here I am re-submitting myself to the journey of supporting my sisters in slaying one giant at a time.
Dear heavenly father, we come before you asking for courage to embrace who you created us to be. May you open the eyes of our understanding so that we don’t take on the armor of another, rather than suiting up with the weapons you have equipped us with. Thank you in advance for healing us where we are broken and growing us up in the things of God. We thank you and surrender to you because we know that it is only by your grace that we can slay a giant anyway. May our growth and obedience to you be the example that another sister uses to help her understand that she has nothing to prove because you have already equipped her with everything she needs.
It is in Jesus name we pray these things by faith, Amen.
She is clothed in dignity and strength, and she laughs without fear of the future.
